Yes. It will change the final vote tally for both McCain and Obama. Whether it will change the outcome remains to be seen, and it depends on whether Obama has a large enough lead going into the final days.

That is a big if. Between now and the election the Republican hate machine will go into full swing, all the while McCain and Palin will claim to have no knowledge of such a ghastly thing.

You will hear words that have been time-tested in focus groups and Klan Konventions and possibly Clown Conventions. Those words aren’t overtly racist, they won’t sound racist to most people, but those who they’re directed at will recognize them, and they’ll respond in overwhelming numbers at the last minute, scurrying from their vans down by the river to their local polling place.

Do you trust him?

Does he have what it takes to be commander in chief?

Is he ready?

Would you call him at 3 AM?

Or do you trust a cranky old man and the serpent-handling mayor of an Alaskan village?

I do the math; you decide.

But, have you ever tried to wake up someone with PTSD?

Here’s the latest plot of the calculated electoral vote data:

Senator Obama has regained a substantial lead, which is to be expected with all the traditional trends on his side.  The map below shows how each State may vote in this scenario.

However, there is one trend that is not in Senator Obama’s favor, and that is his resolute refusal to be white. Talk about being a strong and steadfast leader! Under ever increasing pressure, he remains a handsome, smart, and yes, even black, man!

I did some calculations based on other people’s polling data, and calculated a Race Factor, which I then folded into my electoral plots and maps like egg white into…I was going to say Angel Food Cake, but let’s keep this metaphor on target and say it’s a Chocolate Mousse, sweet, brown, and delicious. Yum!

Here’s the plot of the calculated electoral vote corrected for race:

It shows that Senator Obama’s lead is much more precarious than it would seem by the raw polling data. Of course, this correction becomes negligible if people turn out at their polling places and vote for the candidate they prefer, based on issues. In that case, it’s a landslide for Obama.

The electoral map below shows how the States might vote today if McCain and Palin succeed, or have succeeded, in making race an issue. That’s what the Republican pundits mean when they say, “If the race is about Obama, McCain wins.” They mean, “If it’s about Obama’s race, McCain wins.”

Certain voters don’t like any ‘elitists’, ‘liberals’, ‘community organizers’, or other such ‘uppity‘ folk coming around and causin’ trouble.

Anyway, here’s the map:

Talk amongst yourselves.

G’nite!
