John McCain, long known for his temperament and recklessness, has just proven again that he’ll do anything-no matter how transparently political-to get back in the spotlight as his floundering campaign slowly sinks under the weight of its own ineptitude.
What kind of hard-fighting, maverick warrior gives up on the fight of his life to sit in the Senate and watch the Senators on the relevant committees form legislation? Senator McCain has shown almost no interest in the Senate in a couple of years. Suspiciously, he needs to be there *NOW*.
The only proof necessary that McCain’s plaintive whine to call off the campaign and Friday’s debate is a desperate political ploy is that Bill Kristol, of the Weakly Stranded, immediately emerged from under his toadstool to frame McCain as an energetic executive, rather than a ‘talker.’ Those are just rehashed words the Republicans have been spewing for months.
McCain ‘acts’; Obama ‘talks’.
Bah.
Whatever.
What it really means is this: The McCain campaign is withering again, as it should, because it is the wrong campaign, with the wrong candidates and the wrong message for the time.
So, McCain throws a few wild roundhouse punches and tries to come back. He’s a fighter, no doubt, and that’s all.
Furthermore, by again labeling Senator Obama as a ‘gifted gabber’ as opposed to a ‘man of action’, the McCain/Palin campaign has set themselves up to win the debates…by losing the debates. That’s a tactic perfected by the Bush/Cheney/Rove team, and now preferred by the Bush/McCain/Cheney/Palin/Rove team. It’s been resurrected because it works. It allows the Republicans to win debates with a candidate that is basically laughable.
They say, “Look, that other guy’s smart and talks good. What is he…French? Worse yet, well-educated?”
And Americans from Dumbfuckistan to Polygamyland believe it.
Let’s hope this McCain ploy is too transparent even for the American electorate.
But, my expectations are extraordinarily low.
