Well, first, that’s what the Republicans do during every election, but one of the underlying reasons in the McCain-Obama contest is that McCain has fallen badly behind and is in grave danger of losing in a landslide. In a desperate attempt to save his shaky, dishonorable campaign, McCain is about to unleash the Republican hate machine.
Look at the table below, and then we’ll talk about it.
The eight highly contested States at the top of the table were all Bush States in 2000 and again in 2004. According to Real Clear Politics, Obama currently leads in six of those States.
The McCain campaign, led by a reckless gambler, is going to make another reckless gamble. The McCain campaign is wagering that they put some of these States back in the McCain column by attacking Obama’s associations, character, elitism, all the things Republicans attack because they have no plan and no intention to help anyone but Wall Street, millionaires, and weapons manufacturers.
It’s a transparent ploy. The Republicans pull it out every election, and it usually works.
The Republican Holy Trinity of Hate, Greed, and Fear will play pretty well in some of those States. Not being a hate-monger myself, I’m not going to mention any names, but I’m sure you can figure it out. Don’t you love that kind of sinister implication? You…know what must be done!
So, expect to hear the terms ‘community organizer’, ‘South Side of Chicago’, ‘out of step’, ‘out of touch’, ‘elitist’, and of course, ‘urban’. And there are plenty of people who will take the bait. Those are words that are meant to drive a wedge between Senator Obama and the ‘hard-working white Americans‘ mentioned by Hillary Clinton.

The Republicans have a history of this kind of win at any cost campaigning, and they continue to do it because it works. It works especially well for their base.
But, looking at the table above, it’s easy to see why the McCain campaign is desperate. If Senator Obama wins just Colorado, only 1 State of the six solid Bush States that currently favor him, he becomes President Obama.
While that has a pleasant ring to most Americans, it is terrifying to the Republican base. After all, Barack HUSSEIN Obama isn’t one of us!
